National Park of the 5 Terre

The Cinque Terre area is located at the southern end of the Ligurian Riviera of Levante, on the border with Tuscany; National Park became a UNESCO World Heritage Site, consists of five fishing villages, Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso , admired by all visitors for the characteristic and colorful fishermen’s houses.
As a backdrop to these villages, the rows of vineyards that climb the hills of the Ligurian hinterland.
Thanks to the Blue Path, a hiking path that passes through the five villages of the National Park, you can enjoy beautiful landscapes overlooking the Marine Protected Area.
To enjoy this spectacular territory in complete freedom, visitors can buy the Cinque Terre Card online. The card allows you to take advantage of the 24 hours from the moment of validation of the services available on the territory of the National Park, including travel on regional trains within the park, the use of toilets, internet connection, bus services within and between countries, reduced entrance fees at some museums (Musei Civici a la Spezia), etc.

How to reach the Cinque Terre
By train
On comfortable regional trains that pass through the stations of Cavi (about 220 meters from the hotel) and Sestri Levante (about 4.3km from the hotel).

By car
Driving along the A12 towards La Spezia to reach in about 15/20 minutes the exit Levanto – Carrodano, continuing along the coast in as many 15 /20 minutes you reach Monterosso where it is recommended to leave the car to continue by train and/ or local bus.
Especially in the periods of greatest influx of tourists (bridges, holidays, late spring and summer months), it is suggested to organize the transfer from the hotel to the Cinque Terre using rail services, to avoid traffic problems and lack of parking once you arrive in Monterosso.

Portofino

Lavagna

A town overlooking the Gulf of Tigullio, Lavagna boasts an ancient history dating back to Roman times. Through the typical streets called “carruggi”, you can inebriate with the scent of the typical Ligurian focaccia, to reach its main points of interest such as the Brignardello Portico (1894 – 1898); the porch overlooks a square that becomes during the year, cultural events (e.g. concerts, food and wine events, etc.).
The portico accompanies the imposing Basilica of Santo Stefano, in late Renaissance style, whose origins date back to before the year 1000; the churchyard that anticipates the entrance of the building, offers a panoramic view of the entire town, along Via Roma to the sea, leaving the visitors breathless.
Another point of interest not to be missed is the Church of Santa Giulia, a majestic church in Baroque style that stands in the hills of Santa Giulia, about 250 meters high; suggestive interiors decorated with mosaics and marble. (Before leaving for the church visit, it is suggested to check the opening days).
Every year, since 1949, the 14 August in Lavagna takes place the historical re-enactment of the Torta dei Fieschi: a parade in medieval costumes crosses the streets of the town to reach the foot of the Torre dei Fieschi.
Lavagna is also known for its marina, one of the largest in Europe, designed to accommodate 1,500 boats, up to 50 meters long. In summer boats depart from the port for excursions to the Cinque Terre, Santa Margherita, Portofino, San Fruttuoso. lavagnaturismo.it

(distance 2.5km in about 30 minutes) along the Via Aurelia or along the promenade (from the Ziki Paki bathing establishment to the train station, using the underpasses).

Cavi Borgo

An ancient fishing village, Cavi Borgo overlooks the sea of the Gulf of Tigullio; its beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag for decades. The hills behind it are rich in vegetation and olive groves, among which there are paths for hikers.
Worth a visit is the Church of the Holy Conception, built in 1757, decorated with marble.

Sestri Levante

Ligurian town whose historic center overlooks, on one side on the Bay of Silence and on the other on the Bay of Fairy Tales.
To visit in addition to the quaint old town, from the decorated houses and its shops, the Church of Santo Pietro in Vincoli built by the Friars Minor in 1640 with baroque interiors, the Basilica of Santa Maria di Nazareth of the seventeenth century with artistic and architectural neoclassical and baroque elements, and finally the Convent of the Capuchin Friars where the paintings “The Miracle of Saint Anthony of Padua” are exposed and “San Felice da Cantalice receiving from the Virgin the Child Jesus”, in addition to the Church of Santa Maria Immacolata, near the Bay of Silence, built in medieval style in 1688.

Chiavari

A town on the Gulf of Tigullio, Chiavari shares the Marina with Lavagna.
The main religious buildings that represent the history of the Ligurian town are the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora delle Grazie and Nostra Signora dell’Ulivo.
The first is overlooking the cliff overlooking the sea, dated XIII century. It consists of a hospitable for pilgrims and a chapel, as well as the beautiful church built between 1539 and 1550; inside the frescoes with the stories of the “Life of the Virgin Mary” and the “Passion of Christ”; inside you can admire the wooden statue of the Madonna, of Flemish manufacture.
At a distance of one mile, there is the Church of Our Lady of the Olive Tree, in Bacezza, in memory of the apparition of Our Lady among the branches of olive trees, in 936 AD; the image is now kept in the crypt. For more information, see chiavariturismo.it
Thanks to the arcades, which start from Piazza Mazzini and take life along Via Martiri della Liberazione, Chiavari allows visitors to get to know the evocative views of historic houses, where you will meet ovens and cozy bars.

Genova

The Ligurian capital preserves the many lives that animate it: the carruggi, the port, the noble quarters, the new city, the Aquarium.
The tour departs from Genoa Brignole to head towards Piazza della Vittoria, majestic with its imposing arch, at the bottom of the Caravel Staircase depicted by floral decorations.
Continuing you will walk in the noble and elegant part of the city, characterized by the usual arcades lined with shops, in fact to do some shopping, the right address is Via XX Settembre, so up to Piazza De Ferraris, in its center the circular fountain gushing.
Worth a look is the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, in Gothic style, with black and white marble, built between 1.100 and 1.300.
You then arrive at Porto Antico where, inside the Port of Genoa, is also located the Aquarium of Genoa, the largest in Europe, is definitely worth a visit, especially if you are in the company of the youngest and children; the aquarium exhibits marine species of rare beauty.

La Spezia

La Spezia is a port town, at the center of the picturesque Gulf of Poets, so called as the only example of the Mediterranean fjord.
Several museums to visit in the city: the Castle Museum of San Giorgio with inside the Civic Archaeological Museum U. Formentini containing historical finds dating from prehistory to the Middle Ages; Amedeo Lia Civic Museum where paintings are on display, as well as sculptures, ancient objects and miniatures dating back to the period from the thirteenth to the eighteenth century; the Naval Technical Museum in which to admire over 150 models of ships and boats, 2,500 medals and over 7.00 between documents and historical technical volumes.
